Slightly odd story emerging from Zakynthos: a middle aged female tourist from the UK was transferred to Rio hospital, Patras, after suffering severe pain from what appeared to be an insect bite. Doctors were unable to save her life and suspect a poisonous spider such as a scorpion.

The world appears to be accelerating rapidly towards a future where every gadget imaginable has to be ‘smart’ and ‘connected’ with often little thought to how well they are protected from security threats, or how easily they can be updated if vulnerabilities are found. Weak, easy-to-crack default passwords in routers only make the problem worse.

Virgin Media has published instructions on its website about how customers can change their Super Hub 2 passwords.

Parliament hit by 'sustained' cyber attack targeting emails

Parliament has been hit by a cyber-security attack in which hackers have tried to access email accounts.

MPs and Lords have been left unable to access their emails remotely as a result of measures taken to stave off the attack.

The attack follows reports that passwords for MPs and officials were being sold online by hackers.

Dozens of animals among evacuees from Chalcots estate over fire risk

Thousands of residents were urged to leave their home at short notice after officials at Camden Council ruled that their homes posed a fire risk following urgent inspections in the wake of the Grenfell disaster.

But it is not just humans who were left seeking a roof over their heads - dozens of pets were also caught up in the turmoil.

Many of those told to leave have also been registering their pets as they look for temporary accommodation while corrective work is carried out over the next two to four weeks.

Senior animal welfare officer, Joe Clarke, from Islington Council who are working in partnership with Camden, said animals registered with them so far include 12 dogs, six cats, two budgies, a cockatiel, a parrot, two hamsters, a guinea pig, three tanks of fish, and a hedgehog.

Well done Camden.  Got their finger out for the peeps pretty sharpish and recognised that whatever tenancy agreements might say more than half the population share their lives with animals who are just at risk from fire as humans.  How many pets died in Grenfell??!

Very interesting Maik.  Any more details when available would be welcome.
