Haven't got any details but heard Yiorgos Potamianos of Outdoor Kefalonia is organising a 26 km fund raising run on Clean Monday, 11/03/19, for the Paediatric Department at Argostoli Hospital. Anyone interested can contact George on (0030) 6979 987611.

World War One grenade among potatoes at Hong Kong crisp factory

A World War One-era German hand grenade has been found among a delivery of potatoes shipped from France to a crisp factory in Hong Kong, police say.

The muddy device, which was 3in (8cm) wide, was "in an unstable condition" because it had been discharged but had failed to detonate, officials said.

It was discovered at the Calbee crisp-making factory in the eastern Sai Kung district on Saturday morning.

The bombe de terre was safely detonated on site by bomb disposal officers.

Probably won't have much effect on expat sailors living in Greece but in case it's of any interest:

Queen set to reach 67th anniversary of accession

The Queen – the longest reigning monarch in British history – is about to mark 67 years on the throne.

Princess Elizabeth became Queen on February 6 1952 on the death of her beloved father George VI.

The monarch is only three years away from her Platinum Jubilee – 70 years on the throne – which would be a first for a British sovereign.

The Government is already planning a Festival of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 2022 to showcase the UK’s strengths and coincide with the jubilee year.

It is not yet known how grand celebrations for the milestone jubilee would be, falling in the year the Queen turns 96.

Spanish flagged yacht DORIA PRIMERO had to be towed into Argostoli port earlier today after suffering mechanical failure in the bay. Three occupants uninjured, boat awaiting certification to sail.

Greece is already trying to impose a tax on visiting yachts, the idea was to attempt to tax the rich Greeks who have boats registered elsewhere ie Delaware (Yankland) they have failed to do this, as is normal for Greece, so they are taxing visiting yachts per metre per month, lots of yachts are considering moving elsewhere as a result of this mess, yet when i book accommodation they want cash in hand, no receipt, it beggars belief, but thats the Greece we all love :oki:

Sounds as though a new indoor sports facility/gym could be built in Argostoli, ideally on the same site or close to the existing outdoor stadium. Apparently Kef has a consistently good record of producing young gymnasts and the stadium is one of the best in the country, the venue is likely to attract track and field athletes at a national level to a meeting to be held before 11 May.

Seems as though, on the last two Saturdays, citizens of Argostoli have been signing a petition against oil exploration in the channel between Kef and the mainland. Today a similar exercise in Lixouri resulted in more signatures on the petition.
