Berlin's giant AquaDom aquarium containing 1,500 fish explodesA giant aquarium containing a million litres of water in the lobby of the Radisson Blu in Berlin has burst, flooding the hotel and nearby streets.The "AquaDom" - home to 1,500 tropical fish - is 14m high (46 ft) and was described as the largest free-standing cylindrical aquarium in the world.Police said there had been "incredible maritime damage" and two people were injured by glass shards. The aquarium contained more than 100 different species of fish.
Rabbit abandoned in Plymouth with note after its owner's relationship endedA rabbit was left abandoned in its cage with a note explaining that her owner's relationship had ended.Daisy the rabbit was left in freezing conditions with a note that read: "Daisy, Indoor-only rabbit litter trained. Beautiful. Sadly my relationship ended. Sorry."She was taken in by staff at Woodside Animal Sanctuary in Elford Leigh, Plymouth, after a passer-by altered them about the freezing bunny. Daisy had to be put in a makeshift pen due to all the others being full.Woodside Animal Sanctuary helps with 19 different species of pets with the rabbit section being full with a long waiting list.Helen Lecointe, senior sanctuary manager, said “Rabbits are the third most popular pet in the UK, but sadly the most unwanted. We could fill our pens five times over.
Findings link children’s charity to financial crimesThe Anti-Money Laundering Authority has reportedly found serious indications of financial crimes by the management of children’s charity Ark of the World, which is under investigation over its finances amid accusations of sexual abuse of minor.In its report, the authority stated, among other things, that there are indications the founder of the charity, Father Antonios Papanikolaou, his wife Stamatia Georganti, as well as two other individuals, are alleged to have committed criminal acts related to the Ark’s finances.Checks carried out on accounts and properties revealed evidence of offenses such as money laundering, embezzlement and others.Both Papanikolaou and his wife allegedly lived off funds from the charity, while at the same time the former is suspected of purchasing real estate.

Amazon Coventry warehouse staff vote to strike over 50p per hour pay rise in UK first Amazon workers have voted to go on strike for the first time ever in the UK after a ballot at one of the company's vast warehouses in Coventry.The walkout is likely to take place in January after staff reacted angrily to a 50p per hour pay rise in the summer - equivalent to 5% and well below inflation. But Amazon said the vote had been held among a tiny proportion of the tens of thousands of workers in the UK and would not disrupt any deliveries.The ballot, which was held among around 300 workers in the Coventry warehouse, saw a 63% turnout - so well above the necessary threshold, with 98% voting to strike. Although it is small, it is unprecedented for this tech giant in the UK. Amazon has also been criticised for a high number of ambulance call-outs to its sites. A freedom of information request by GMB found that ambulances were called to the Coventry site 59 times between September 2018 and October 2021 for reasons including burns and traumatic injuries.There was a separate FOI linked to the company's warehouse in Rugeley that suggested over three years ambulances were called to the Amazon warehouse 108 times, while they were called to a similar-sized Tesco warehouse only eight times.
