Black Vulture Killed After Flying Into Wind Turbine Blades In Northern GreeceA black vulture (Aegypius monachus) was killed after flying onto the blades of a wind turbine installed at a Natura 2000 protected park in northern Greece, the Management Unit of Evros Delta & Dadia National Parks said on Friday.The incident occured in the Filiouri Valley, north of the settlement of Nea Santa at Rodopi prefecture, and it was recorded by the cameras of the wind turbine’s bird collision prevention system.The black vulture had been named Hector and was tagged in 2018 when it was still a chick. It carried a special transmitter since October 2021 that is necessary for scientific monitoring.This incident “confirms our concerns about the impact of installing wind farms in areas that are natural habitats for birds,” noted biologist Sylvia Zakkak of the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency.

Not joining personal doctor scheme carries penaltyA ministerial decision published on Friday details the counterincentives designed to encourage citizens to register with the new personal doctor scheme, an initiative seeking to streamline primary healthcare and referrals for specialist consultations and tests in the National Health System (ESY).Starting on October 1, insured individuals who have not signed up for the new service will have to pay 10% more for prescribed medicines, diagnostic tests and procedures, for treatment at a private medical center and for all other services provided by the National Organization for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY). Those costs will go up another 10% on January 1 if the insured individual still fails to comply with the new rules. Under the new scheme, each person insured with EOPYY signs up with a local general practitioner or pathologist who will be their first point of contact for any health complaints or issues.

Famous past owners included Steve McQueen, although it was a Triumph he rode in the film The Great Escape.Norton typically builds bulky, chrome-clad motorcycles and the Norton Interpol was used as a police cruiser in the 1980s.
