EU considers ringfencing Greece to stop flow of migrants

The European Commission and Berlin are ready to back the proposal to aid Macedonia, a non-EU country, that would in effect isolate Greece, a fellow member-state that is economically fragile and already overwhelmed with migrants.

Google has agreed to pay £130m in back taxes after an "open audit" of its accounts by the UK tax authorities. The company had been accused of "not paying its fair share" of tax, and criticised for complex tax structures.

Google tax deal labelled 'derisory', as criticism grows

The government hailed "a victory", but shadow chancellor John McDonnell said the figure was "relatively trivial".

Labour MP Meg Hillier, chair of the public accounts committee, said it was "a small amount of money" for Google.

Conservative MP Mark Garnier, a member of the Treasury select committee, said the agreement represented a "relatively small" amount of money compared with Google's UK profits.
