2,000 people evacuated by sea in RhodesAbout 2,000 people have been evacuated by sea from two beaches in Rhodes, Fire Service spokesman Yannis Artopios said Saturday evening. He said the evacuation took place “without incident.”Three coast guard vessels, an army lifeboat, Special Forces inflatables and thirty private sailboats assisted in the evacuation.Passenger shipper Blue Star offered one of its ferries to accommodate some of the evacuees, Artopios said. He added that “less than 10% of the island’s tourist accommodations” were affected by the evacuation order.
Foreign Ministry to open Help Desk in Rhodes airportForeign Ministry staff is en route to Rhodes to open a Help Desk at the island’s airport on Sunday after 5 p.m. The Help Desk, in coordination with embassies in Greece, will facilitate the travel of visitors to the island who left without their passports and travel documents.
Bridge collapse near Patra leaves one deadA motorway bridge into Patra collapsed on Sunday leaving at least one dead, two people pinned under the rubble and seven injured, with at least one being seriously injured.The bridge had structural problems in the past and was under repair since 2021. The Olympia Odos motorway had closed the road due to demolition works and there was no traffic on the bridge.According to information available to Kathimerini, there was a planned demolition on a section of the bridge but there was a group of five to six people beneath it.
