Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8806 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1355 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1198 USD   $1 USD = 0.8930 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.6988 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5886 €UR
1 €UR = R21.7373 ZAR   R1 ZAR = 0.0460 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Britons face call-up to fight in the armed forces if UK goes to war with Russia, top army chief warns
British men and women should be prepared for a call-up if Nato goes to war with Russia, warns the head of the British army

Britons face being called up to fight in any future wars because the size of the armed forces is too small, a top army chief will say on Wednesday morning.

In a speech, General Sir Patrick Sanders will underline the need for the government to “mobilise the nation” in the event of a conflict with Russia.

He will say that private citizens will have to be called up to fight in the armed forces if a war does break out amid a crisis in the British Army, which is at its smallest size in decades.

Roman-era wine shop, possibly destroyed in an earthquake, discovered in Greece
A wine shop in Roman-era Greece experienced catastrophe and was abandoned around 1,600 years ago.

Archaeologists in Greece have discovered a 1,600-year-old wine shop that was destroyed and abandoned after a "sudden event," possibly an earthquake or building collapse, left broken vessels and 60 coins scattered on the floor, according to new research.

The shop operated at a time when the Roman Empire controlled the region. It was found in the ancient city of Sikyon (also spelled Sicyon), which is located on the northern coast of the Peloponnese in southern Greece. Within the wine shop, archaeologists found the scattered coins, as well as the remains of marble tabletops and vessels made of bronze, glass and ceramic.

The wine shop was found on the northern end of a complex that had a series of workshops containing kilns and installations used to press grapes or olives.

In addition to wine, other items, such as olive oil, may have been sold in the shop. Most of the coins date to the reign of Constantius II, from 337 to 361, with the latest coin being minted sometime between 355 and 361.

Google Pixel phones unusable after January 2024 system update

Google Pixel smartphone owners report problems after installing the January 2024 Google Play system update, being unable to access their devices internal storage, open the camera, take screenshots, or even open apps.

The issue is being reported by owners of numerous Pixel models, including the Google Pixel 5, 6, 6a, 7, 7a, 8, and 8 Pro, suggesting that it isn't confined to a particular hardware architecture.

The root cause is unknown but is likely a software issue with the January 2024 Play system update that Google hasn't pinpointed or fixed yet.

If you are still on an older update (last was November 1, 2023), it is recommended to stay on it and postpone applying the January 2024 update until the situation clears up.
