Graduates fail to meet skill needs

Greek universities produce graduates in bulk, without them meeting the requirements of the local market, according to a survey conducted by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV). The survey found that despite the huge number of unemployed people, Greek enterprises are often unable to fill vacancies with adequately skilled staff.

Greek island to pay families £450 a month to live there

A Greek island will pay families €500 (£450) a month if they go and live there in an effort to combat its dwindling population.

The island of Antikythera, located between Crete and Kythira in the Mediterranean, has just 24 permanent residents, which swells slightly during the summer months.

Pakistan's street cricketers bring game to life in Greece

In a barren Athens parking lot, young Pakistanis get in position for a game of cricket. On one end of the dust-covered concrete is a trash can; on the other, a pile of rocks. That is their pitch, and those are its wickets.

In football-loving Greece, cricket is an alien concept. But for its migrants from Pakistan, one of the world’s most cricket-crazy nations, it is a way of life.

On Sundays, a growing community of street cricketers travels across the capital to the unlikeliest locations, from car parks to abandoned industrial grounds, engaging in tape-ball cricket – an informal version of the game invented in Pakistan, played using a tennis ball wrapped in electrical tape.

With the Cricket World Cup under way, they compete in local tape-ball tournaments, and homes and restaurants are abuzz with fans.

Maggots are the answer to feeding a human population that's heading to nine billion people
A single acre of black soldier fly larvae can produce more protein than 3,000 acres of cattle or 130 acres of soybeans

Sami coast guard officers performed an emergency rescue earlier today when a woman, believed Greek visitor, collapsed and fell into Sami harbour. Coast guard officers on the scene dived into the sea and managed to rescue the woman who was taken to Argostoli hospital in a state of shock but otherwise unharmed.
