Brit tourist, 26, missing in Greece after going on hike

A huge police operation is underway to find a 26-year-old British tourist who vanished after going on a hike in Greece.

The man, who has not yet been named, hasn't been seen since Sunday, according to officials.

His phone has also been deactivated, while his car was found yesterday at 8pm in a nearby village of Mikro Papigo.

Local media reports that he was staying at a hotel in Konitsa, northwestern Greece, and left on Sunday morning to go hiking in the Zagoria district.

His father is reported to have called the 112 emergency number on Monday after he failed to return to his hotel and a rescue operation was immediately launched.

Data Show 1,517 Fires Broke Out Across Greece in August

According to a study conducted by Andrianos Gourbatsis, which was published on Monday, a total of 1,517 fires broke out across Greece from August 1 to August 31, 2019. Gourbatsis is a a retired General of the Greek Fire Brigade.

The same study disclosed that a total of 9,150 separate fires were reported from the beginning of the year until August 31, burning 90,000 stremmata (22,240 acres) of land across the country.

Gourbatsis’ study notes that this figure is actually significantly lower than the number of fires Greece is used to dealing with every summer.

Scottish judges rule Parliament suspension is unlawful

Boris Johnson’s suspension of the UK Parliament is unlawful, Scotland’s highest civil court has ruled.

A panel of three judges at the Court of Session found in favour of a cross-party group of politicians who were challenging the prime minister's move.

The judges said the PM was attempting to prevent Parliament holding the government to account ahead of Brexit.

Greeks trust EU and US less than other Europeans

Greeks are the Europeans with the least trust in the European Union and the United States compared with their continental peers, according to a poll conducted by YouGov in 14 countries, on behalf of the think tank European Council on Foreign Relations.

Twenty-six percent of Greek respondents said neither the EU nor their national government represents their national interest in international trade adequately – the highest rate among EU countries.

All countries involved in the survey appear to trust the EU more than the US.

Asked which camp they would choose in the event of a US-Russia conflict, most respondents in all countries favored neutrality. Notably, only 5 percent of Europeans and 7 percent of Greeks trust US President Donald Trump as an ally.

However, Greece is one of only three countries (along with Austria and Slovakia) where the percentage of those who think we should side with Russia is greater than those who would support the US-led coalition (7 pct vs 5 pct).

Brexit: Nigel Farage election pact proposal rejected by No 10

Boris Johnson will not make an election pact with Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, Downing Street has said.

Mr Farage said his party and the Conservatives should make a deal and "together we would be unstoppable".

But a senior Conservative source said Mr Farage was "not a fit and proper person" and "should never be allowed anywhere near government".

Saw two of these today just north of the Port on Ithaka where the ferry from Sami goes. They seemed to be a juvenile pair based on size, but hopefully not breeding yet.

Will post post photos soon.
