Kef fire risk 28/06/23: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8857 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1280 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1291 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8865 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

A Czech tourist has died after collapsing on a beach on the northern Aegean island of Thasos, with eyewitnesses saying that it took 51 minutes for an ambulance to reach the scene.

One of those tourists said the woman had a pulse for around 40 minutes.

Local media have reported that tourists have taken to social media to complain that the popular tourist island only has one ambulance, and in this case it had to travel 30 kilometers to reach the beach.

A 13-year-old boy from Paramythia in Ioannina, northwestern Greece, was hospitalized on Tuesday after being bitten by a snake.

The hospital requested and received a venom antiserum from the local university hospital as a precaution, but it was not necessary as the boy’s condition was not life-threatening.

Corfu: Wild fight involving a British rapper - car drags a pedestrian

Out-of-control images were recorded by tourists on their mobile phones in Kavos, Corfu. According to the Star, a crowd attacked a British rapper inside a black car. They were shouting, banging on the windows and kicking the car.

...according to ERT, the residents are outraged, wondering what will be the future of their area as, as they point out, similar incidents occur very often. Kavos is one of the most touristic areas of southern Corfu and attracts mainly young visitors from Britain.

Just a few days after an old man was fined heavily for dragging a goat along the road there's another neanderthal on Zakynthos, this time dragging a dog behind his car. A shocked motorist whipped out his smartphone and captured the cruelty, video sent to Ζακυνθινός Όμιλος Μέριμνας Ζώων, the Zakynthos Animal Welfare Group, who've passed it on to the police. Brief video on their Facebook page.

Dentists 'very concerned' after shoppers spot Colgate toothpaste priced at £10

Shoppers have highlighted the "ridiculous" cost of toothpaste after spotting one tube costing £10 on Tesco and Boots shelves.

Dentists have said they are "very concerned" about the impact the rising prices will have on people's oral hygiene.

Social housing campaigner Kwajo Tweneboa tweeted: "Went into Boots to pick up toothpaste and saw this … Decided to get the £6 option. £6 for tooth paste. Jesus wept. "

Tesco did not comment on the pricing, and said there were cheaper alternatives starting from just 50p.

Households in Greece submit 350,000 applications for subsidies for solar water heaters

Results are about to be published for grants for Greek households that submitted a request to replace an electric water heater with a solar thermal collector.

The scheme covers 50% to 60% of the costs, translating to EUR 510 to EUR 905 per beneficiary, depending on the category. The government earmarked EUR 100 million for the first round of grants with the ambition to select 120,000 households.
