Rafale vs. Eurofighter in the Aegean – Turkey is looking for an answer to Greece’s military superiority through BritainTo face the Greek air superiority in the Aegean, after the supply of 24 French Rafale fighters, the upgrade of 83 F-16s to Block 70 Viper level, and the expected acquisition of American 5th generation F-35 aircraft by the end of the current decade, Turkey seeks to sign a defence cooperation agreement with Great Britain. In essence, Great Britain seeks, through the signing of this agreement, to cover the gap and impasse that has existed in the Turkish Air Force in terms of upgrading its aging air fleet due to its expulsion from the American program of F-35, but also the refusal of the US Congress to allow the purchase of 40 new F-16s and the modernisation of 80 more to the Viper level of those it has.Already, London and Ankara are in the process of consultation for the legal framework created through the “Declaration of Intent for Defence Cooperation,” as the agreement signed in the middle of last month by the defence ministers of the two countries, Grant Shapps and Yaşar Güler, is called, to receive flesh and blood to procure 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters from the Turkish Air Force and provide further British logistical support for the development of the Turkish national fighter aircraft KAAN.
