Steam trains to return to the West Midlands mainline

A new operator is to start running regular steam train services in the West Midlands.

Publicly-owned Vintage Trains is one of a handful of companies to be given permission to run the locomotives on the mainline.

The first trips are likely to open to the public in the autumn from the Great Western Railway steam depot at Tyseley in Birmingham.

Eerie scene of spider webs across large areas in Aitoliko, western Greece (photos)

The locals in the town of Aitoliko in western Greece woke up to quite an extraordinary scene on Monday reminiscent to the Hobbit trilogy, when they came across a vast expanse of greenery covered completely in cobwebs.

The inhabitants of the town observed the rare phenomenon on the eastern side of the lagoon, just before a bridge, where a huge veil of spiders had covered the plants (palm trees and herbaceous vegetation) with a web at least 300 meters long.

Millions overcharged for mobile contracts

About four million people have been charged for mobile phones they already own, spending £500m extra on contracts, according to Citizens Advice.

Three of Britain's biggest mobile networks, EE, Three and Vodafone, continue to charge for handsets even after the cost has been paid off.

Many customers have no idea they are being charged for phones after their contracts have ended.

Yoghurts (even organic ones) 'full of sugar'

Many yoghurts are full of sugar and the public should not be lulled into thinking they are eating healthy products, researchers say.

The conclusion comes after a study of almost 900 yoghurts on sale in UK supermarkets.

The research found that organic yoghurts were among the most sugary types.

Only natural and Greek-style yoghurts could be classed as low in sugar.

CCleaner Disregarding Settings and Forcing Update to Latest 5.46 Version

Reports are coming in that Piriform is forcing CCleaner to update to the latest 5.46 version even when users had configured the program to not perform automatic updates. To make matters worse, once the users were upgraded to the latest version, their privacy settings were reverted to default, which is to allow anonymous usage data to be sent to Avast/Piriform.

I will definitely do a trip when I am in the UK in November, but no sign of any tours on the Vintage Trains website.

Sounds great as they also say it may be extended to other lines. We went on the North Yorkshire Steam Railway last week from Pickering to Whitby and it was lovely. Glorious day which did help and we took the dog too. I do think though that they are becoming a victim of their own success even more so since the Channel 5 program(filming at the moment for another series)There were about 300 people on the train and when several coaches have been reserved for travel companies it doesn't leave much room for other passengers. Several were left running up and down the train to find spaces. Not funny if you have a baby in tow or you are elderly. On the way back it was bedlam even though there was a later train. They will have to start and give people set trains to travel on and only sell tickets for seats. Lots of people had dogs with them and they had to stand in the aisle. Not easy for them especially when people want to pass and the journey takes best part of 2hrs.Room for a little improvement me thinks!!
