Kef fire risk 07/06/22: Medium

Five new coronavirus cases confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday by EODY, one on Ithaka

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8798 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.1048 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1366 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9051 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Once the Conservative Party represented decency, honesty, integrity and British values. Now it supports Boris Johnson. Margaret Thatcher must be turning in her grave at this shitshow.

Men, be warned. Running marathons could actually age you
Males over 40 could be putting themselves at greater risk of heart attacks and strokes by taking part in the gruelling events, say experts

Overall, men who regularly took part in events such as marathons, ironman triathlons and cycling events were found to have a vascular age a decade older than their chronological age.

This could put them at greater risk of heart attacks and strokes, experts warned.

But the study of more than 300 regular athletes found women who took part in endurance events saw a health boost. By one measure, their vascular age was six years younger than their true age.

Well, that's something i don't have to worry about.

And looks like I've got Mary's birthday prezzie sorted - a nice pair of Nikes  ;)

Household essentials protected from repossession in new bill

A draft law submitted to Parliament on Tuesday seeks to protect debtors from having essential assets seized when their properties are being repossessed for auction.

Under the provisions of the new Public Revenue Collection Code, household equipment like refrigerators and cookers, furniture or personal items and clothing cannot be seized with the other contents of a property that is being repossessed over bad debt.

EU sets date for common phone charge cable

The days of hunting through cables to find the right charger may be coming to an end.

The European Union has provisionally agreed new portable electronic devices must, by autumn 2024, use a USB Type-C charger.

BBC News has asked the UK government if it intends to pass similar legislation.

But under the current post-Brexit arrangements, the European Union ruling would apply to Northern Ireland, EU and UK officials have told BBC News.

According to a December 2021 parliamentary report, the "new requirements may also apply to devices sold in Northern Ireland under the terms of the Northern Ireland protocol in the Brexit agreement, potentially triggering divergence of product standards with the rest of the UK".

The treaty works by keeping Northern Ireland inside the EU's single market for goods, while mainland Britain is outside it.

A row between the UK and EU about how to reform the Northern Ireland protocol remains unresolved.

Law makes monkeypox a notifiable disease in England

England is making it a legal requirement for doctors to notify their local council or health protection team about any suspected monkeypox cases.

It brings the infection in line with ones such as measles, scarlet fever and tuberculosis.

The move is intended to help manage the rare virus, which appears to have been affecting people in many countries, including the UK, in recent weeks.
