Head of dog’s home jailed for five years after stealing donations worth nearly £1m to fund lavish lifestyle

The boss of a dog’s home who swindled the charity out of nearly £1m donations before blowing the cash on a lavish lifestyle has been jailed for five years.

Simon Price, 53, the ex-chief executive of Birmingham Dogs Home, and his 39-year-old wife Alayna Warner pocketed cash left by animal lovers in their wills.

Drug dealer arrested after confusing police car for a taxi

An alleged drug dealer in Copenhagen received an unwanted surprise for Christmas when he jumped into the back of a taxi with about 1,000 joints on him, only to find it was a police car.

Danish police said the man was rushing home when he made the grave error.

Wood-burning stoves face crack down amid health warnings

The traditional Christmas gathering around an open fire is under threat by a government investigation into whether the increasing popularity of wood-burning stoves and traditional open fires is damaging people's health.

Michael Gove, the Environment Secretary, is to launch a consultation in the New Year which will examine pollutants caused by wet wood and smoky coal.
