Devastated families will never know how two Yorkshire divers died days apart in GreeceHull doctor Vincent Hong and Yorkshire businessman Tim Saville died on separate dives during an expedition on the island of KeaThe families of a Hull doctor and a Yorkshire businessman who died just two days apart while on a diving expedition in Greece have been told the cause of their deaths will never be known. An inquest into their deaths was held in April in Hull and was adjourned. Further evidence was heard on Wednesday before being completed. Senior coroner Professor Paul Marks concluded the cause of death for both men was “related to scuba diving” and, with Tim, high blood pressure was an added contributory factor. He returned an ‘open’ conclusion in both cases. On Wednesday, Prof Marks said: “Quite how Mr Hong and Mr Saville met their deaths cannot be determined on the evidence we have heard. We have gone to exhaustive lengths to determine the cause of death in both cases.“We have been let down by Greek authorities who did not take blood samples at the time to test for carboxyheamoglobin levels (carbon monoxide in the blood) and did not examine the gas cylinders.”A criminal court case will be heard in Greece in January next year. Kea Divers has been charged with negligent manslaughter following the deaths of Vincent and Tim.
