'Mystery plant' grown by pensioner finally identified...as cannabis
A woman who sent a photograph of a "mystery plant" to a local radio station finds she is actually growing cannabis in her garden

It is believed the cannabis plant grew from a seed which fell from the bird feeder hanging above the flowerbed.

Monarch deal 'could be just days away'

A private investment fund is thought to be in advanced talks to take over Monarch Group in a deal which would save thousands of jobs at the airline and tour operating group.

Greybull... is understood to be in talks with Monarch’s owner, Switzerland’s Mantegazza family, who have already pumped about £115 million into the group recent years.

The Mantegazzas want to extricate themselves altogether from Luton-based Monarch with Greybull favourite to clinch a deal, possibly within days.

Photographer Jesse Hunter traveled the world in search of cats and created the quirky coffee table book featuring her favorite felines from around the planet. Each cat also captures the spirit of their homeland from cozy couches to rocky cliffs, including Greece’s own island beauty.

So, here are some of the cats

Fewer Britons have taken a holiday in the past 12 months, according to latest ABTA research.

The Consumer Holiday Trends Report, released at the ABTA Travel Convention in Slovenia today, shows that 80% took a holiday for the 12 months up to July 2014, down from 83% the previous year.

Pacakge holidays have risen in popularity, with 51% of people booking a package in 2014 compared with 46% in 2013. When asked what the appeal was, 62% said they 'wanted everything taken care of' and 61% said they believed packages were the best value.

City breaks have overtaken beach holidays as the most popular type of trip.

Two-thirds of consumers booked their trips online and while 93% of those who did made their booking via computer, the numbers booking by tablet rose from 10% in 2013 to 18%, with the devices being most popular among the 25 to 34 age group.

How I got my driving licence without a test

In many places you need to pass written and practical tests to get a driving licence - but not in Mexico City. For now, all you need here is a few papers and a bit of cash.

Demand for diesel boosts total fuel sales

After five years (2009-13) of decline, the fuel market returned to positive territory in June, albeit at the marginal rate of 0.3 percent year-on-year.

Leading the rebound in demand is diesel.

In the first half of the year fuel demand posted a 3.5 percent decline. In June, demand for gasoline dropped 5.6 percent from the same month in 2013, but demand for diesel posted an annual rise of 6.9 percent.

The rapid growth in autogas (liquefied petroleum gas) as an alternative form of fuel appears to be slowing now, having snatched an 8 percent market share from regular petrol, experts state.
