Greece: Marinopoulos acquisition & new Lidl concept

Leading Greek retailer, Marinopoulos, which filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year, has been rescued in a deal from competitor Sklavenitis, which will make Sklavenitis one of the country's leading retailers.

Elsewhere in the Greek market, competitor Lidl has introduced its new store concept in Thessaloniki, as seen elsewhere in Europe.

Commenting on the development, chairman of Lidl Hellas, James Andreanidis said,.. "The cost of each new generation store is around €4 million while the cost of a conventional store has cost just €1.5m".

According to the decision issued by EPO, the first candidate country to host the cup final, which at present is schedule for Saturday 6 May 2017, will be Germany.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/08/25/whatsapps-new-privacy-policy-lets-it-share-your-phone-number-wit/

I've recently become a WhatsApp user - to my surprise.  I usually don't use my phone much and am therefore on a Pay as You Go contract.  I usually don't mind paying 14p per text - though the new roaming charges mean I only pay 2p in Kef!! However with a family member in hospital I'm using it a a lot more - up to a couple of quid a day at my rate.  Kath uses WhatsApp so I have now gone over to it.  I don't use data at all on my phone and therefore have no charges with WhatsApp which obviously suits me well. The only drawback is that I am limited to using it where I have a WiFi connection, i.e. mainly at home.

Obviously I want nothing whatsoever to do with FB but got the invitation to switch to the new WhatsApp terms and conditions this morning.  As the Telegraph article shows it is absolutely simple to opt out of the FB connection - not that I have a FB account, of course!! I slightly worry about where WhatsApp makes it money as it promises to continue to be ad free and does not/cannot access the content of messages.  Apparently it uses in a not entirely specified way my contact list and my location - however GPS permanently off on my phone!

For mobile users of the dinosaur generation like me at the moment WhatsApp is a bargain way of messaging anyone else who is a user.  You just have to use old fashioned texts from time to time or your mobile provider switches you off.  Apparently you can also speak via WhatsApp - which for me is 35p per minute.  But could cost the other party rather a lot in data charges.

So for now I shall stick with it but will not be surprised if over the next couple of years it becomes very different and less attractive.
