Kef fire risk 22/08/22: High

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8749 GBP
1 €UR = $ 1.0356 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1430 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9656 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Journalists at rightwing Daily Express set to strike over pay
Staff from newspaper that rails against ‘militant trade unions’ will join sister outlets in striking on Friday

The Daily Express has repeatedly warned its readers that “militant trade unions” are bringing Britain to its knees – but this week many of the newspaper’s own staff will go on strike in protest at the outlet’s low pay.

Members of the National Union of Journalists voted to go on strike after rejecting bosses’ offer of a 3% pay rise as not enough to cope with the cost of living crisis.

Experts sound alarm over shrinking bee numbers

Along with many countries around the world, Greece has been, albeit to a lesser extent, witnessing a gradual eradication of bee populations in recent years.

A 2017 UN resolution stressed the urgent need to protect bees, since without them available food will be dramatically reduced in terms of quantity and variety.

A solution for the Elgin marbles: Robot-carved replicas?

Over the years, many have tried to persuade the British Museum to return the Elgin marbles to Greece. But Roger Michel has something the others didn’t: A life-size head of a horse, made from Greek Pentelic marble, that looks remarkably like the one on display in the museum, tiny chips and chisel marks and all, carved by a robot.

Criminal barristers in England and Wales vote to go on all-out strike

Barristers have voted to go on an indefinite, uninterrupted strike in England and Wales from next month.

The strikes are expected to delay thousands of cases, leaving victims and the accused waiting longer for justice.

The CBA is asking for a 25% rise in pay for legal aid work, representing defendants who could not otherwise afford lawyers.

Michelle Heeley, a criminal barrister, told BBC's Five Live the justice system was "crumbling" because of a lack of increase in pay.

Responding to comments that criminal lawyers were perceived to be well paid, she admitted those high up the pay scale were "very fortunate". But she said the median pay for a junior barrister was £12,700 per year.

Tony Blair was warned about Post Office IT deal
The New Labour prime minister was warned the computer system was ‘increasingly flawed’

Tony Blair was warned about the flawed Post Office Horizon computer system that led to hundreds of wrongful prosecutions, The Telegraph can reveal.

The Labour prime minister was told by officials in 1998 that Horizon was “increasingly flawed”, says a report to Sir Wyn Williams’s statutory inquiry into the scandal.

Despite having the option to renegotiate or cancel the government’s contract to buy Horizon, Mr Blair opted to continue with the project and even suggested giving its makers a bonus.
