Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8868 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1276 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1291 USD   $1 USD = 0.8856 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.6761 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5966 €UR
1 €UR = R21.2698 ZAR   R1 ZAR = 0.0470 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Colorado Supreme Court removes Donald Trump from 2024 ballot in shock decision

The Colorado Supreme Court declared former President Donald Trump ineligible for the White House under the US Constitution’s insurrection clause and removed him from the state’s presidential primary ballot.

The move sets up a likely showdown in the nation’s highest court to decide whether the front-runner for the GOP nomination can remain in the race.

Glad the cards arrived OK, everyone who logs-in (fairly) regularly has been sent one, if anyone didn't receive one then possibly you've changed your e-address but not on GGi, or maybe I just cocked it up. Hey ho, Merry Christmas!  :x-smile:

Entrance Fees to Ancient Greek Sites, Museums to Go up as of April 1, 2024

The Central Archaeological Council on Tuesday unanimously approved new entrance fees to archaeological sites and museums in Greece that raise prices, abolish unified tickets for multiple sites, and reduce ticket categories to five levels.

Adjusted prices will be introduced in two phases, the first one starting on April 1, 2024 and the second one on April 1, 2025.

The five new categories of ticketing are as follows:

A. Acropolis of Athens, 30 euros

B. Archaeological sites and museums (over 200,000 visitors), 20 euros

C. Archaeological sites and museums (75,000-200,000 visitors), 15 euros

D. Archaeological sites and museums (15,000-75,000 visitors), 10 euros

E. Archaeological sites and museums (under 15,000 visitors), 5 euros

These ticket prices will be in effect regardless of season, as lower winter prices are abolished.

Greece Will Keep Anti-Profiteering Law to Stop Food Price Gouging

An anti-gouging law aimed at preventing companies from profiteering off high food prices in Greece will continue in 2024 as surveys show high prices are a major issue for consumers and the New Democracy government.

Development Minister Kostas Skrekas said it’s part of the aim “to provide the tools to control phenomena of profiteering,” after Greece has fined some multinationals for unfairly high prices in supermarkets.

Int’l Arrivals to Greece Continue to Boost Regional Airport Traffic

Efforts to extend the tourist season are paying off according passenger traffic data presented this week by Fraport Greece, the managing company of the country’s 14 regional airports.

More specifically, the Greece’s 14 regional airports – Aktio, Chania, Corfu, Kavala, Kefalonia, Thessaloniki, Zakynthos, Kos, Mytilini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Samos, Santorini, and Skiathos – handled a total of 1.02 million passengers in November marking 17 percent rise over the same month a year ago.

Overall, forecasts see passenger traffic reaching 33.8 million by the end of the year compared to 31.2 million in 2022 and 30.2 million in pre-pandemic 2019.

The only airports that failed to meet the mark were those of Mykonos and Santorini.

Surprises me that Kef figures are up for November, I thought flights pretty much dried up in October  :dunno:

Woman throws dog off two-storey roof
Disturbing CCTV shows Amy Judge throwing her small 10-year-old Maltese/shih-tzu off a 30-foot high ledge

An Australian woman who was caught on camera throwing her dog off the roof of a two-storey carpark has been jailed for her ‘‘callous and cruel’’ crime.

Princess the 10-year-old Maltese/shih-tzu cross was found on the ground near a Westfield shopping centre in Perth, Western Australia, by a member of the public who assumed the dog had been hit by a car.

The dog was rushed to a nearby vet who phoned read the pet’s microchip and called the owner, Amy Lea Judge, and her boyfriend, Scott Frost.

When the couple arrived at the clinic to discuss the dog’s injuries and costs involved in treatment, they opted for the dog to be euthanised.

Footage later obtained by police and animal welfare investigators showed Judge had actually hurled Princess off a roof, a height of almost 30 feet, during an argument with Frost.

Microsoft confirms Windows 11 Wi-Fi issues, asks for user feedback

Until a fix is available, customers are advised to uninstall the buggy Windows 11 updates on all affected systems as a temporary solution.

To uninstall KB5033375 and KB50532288, you need to follow this procedure:

Open the Windows start menu, search for "Windows Update," then go to Update history > Uninstall updates
On the list of installed updates, select KB5033375 (or KB50532288), and then click the Uninstall button next to it.
After the update is uninstalled, restart the computer.

After uninstalling, use the 'Show or Hide Updates' troubleshooter to prevent the update from reappearing as an available update from Windows Update.

Looks like it shouldn't affect home users.

UK inflation falls sharply as fuel prices drop

UK inflation has fallen to its lowest level for more than two years, driven largely by a drop in fuel prices.

Prices rose by 3.9% in the year to November, down from 4.6% in October.

Slowing price rises for food, including staples such as pasta, milk and butter, as well as for household goods were also behind the fall.

But while inflation, which is the rate prices rise at, is now well down from its peak in 2022, it is still almost double the Bank of England's 2% target.

Falling inflation also does not mean most goods and services are cheaper, but rather prices are rising less quickly.
