Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8944 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1180 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1397 USD   $1 USD = 0.8774 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.6655 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.6004 €UR
1 €UR = R21.4502 ZAR   R1 ZAR = 0.0466 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

People got three times more things stuck in vaginas than bums in 2023

A&E departments have seen a rise in people attending with, ahem, ‘delicate’ complaints this year.

New data for England shows there has been an increase in the number of people seeking help for broken penises, a burning sensation while urinating, prolonged erections, and being unable to remove ‘foreign objects’ from intimate areas.

The figures, which cover the year to April 2023, show 73,300 people had a procedure to remove a foreign object during that period.

While those numbers also include things stuck in eyes, ears and noses, the data shows there were 1,502 attendances for ‘foreign body in rectum’, with 5,421 attending due to a ‘foreign body in the vagina’.

Attendances for so-called ‘penis problems’ rose by 34% from 13,911 in 2021/22 to 18,592 in 2022/23, and last year some 20,675 women went to A&E for ‘vagina problems’, a 30% rise on 15,930 the year before.

Accounts vary but what seems certain is that a 73 y-o local living in Potamianata, Pylaros, was attacked and knifed as he entered his home around 20:00 yesterday evening. One version of events is that the attacker was waiting to ambush the old man, a different scenario is that the attacker was burgling the house and knifed the owner in order to escape quickly.

The man called for help and was promptly taken to Sami Medical Centre and then on to hospital in Argostoli where his condition has been stabilised. Expected he will be airlifted to hospital in Ioannina.

Police said to be confident attacked will be arrested within the day.

Possibly unconnected but an unsuccessful attempt was made to burgle a shop in Agia Efimia on Christmas Eve.

Two foreign nationals, one aged 25 and the other 18, both of whom live and work as labourers locally despite lacking legal entirlement, have been arrested for the violent assault on a 73 y-o in Potamianata. According to Kef police the elder foreigner broke into man's home to burgle it while the younger foreigner kept watch outside. The householder came home earlier than expected and the men panicked. Suspected the two may also be responsible for the attempted burglary in Agia Efimia.

Waitrose recalls artisan cheese after suspected E. coli outbreak

Waitrose has issued an urgent product recall after a suspected E.coli outbreak was discovered in Christmas cheese.

The high-end supermarket warned customers who bought No.1 Kirkham’s Lancashire product, made using raw cow’s milk, to dispose of it and then clean any surfaces and utensils to prevent cross-contamination.
