City officials in Kavala, Greece, have canceled the Sunday unveiling of a Holocaust memorial because they don’t approve of the Star of David carved into the monument, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported.

According to the JTA, nearly 1,500 Kavala Jews were killed by the Nazis during World War II.

Other parts of the Greek government were dismayed by the news from Kavala.

“As an Orthodox Christian, I feel deeply insulted by this issue, because it would be as if someone asked us to erase or modify for ‘aesthetic reasons’ the symbol of the cross on the tombs of our grandfathers executed by the Germans,” said Giorgos Kalantzis, Greek minister of culture, education and religious affairs.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon: Greece used as an example to show 'how those who resist are treated'

Jean-Luc Mélenchon in an interview with French newspaper "l'Humanite" explained that the reason why he decided to support Greece in his book "le Hareng de Bismarck" is Europe's stance towards Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

The candidate of the Left Front in the 2012 presidential elections said that he took the decision to write this book as he was outraged by the behaviour of the German government and by the fact that the French president Francois Hollande does not react.

"It is a serious political mistake against the European ideal to allow such a treatment towards an EU member state," he noted.

Mélenchon added that Greece is used as an example to show "how those who resist are treated."

Not sure about this but starting to hear mumblings that a 'financial scandal' is about to hit Kef, sounds like something to do with one of the officials of the Ionian Islands Regional Council

Not sure if this is a second restuarant or old news, the Independent carried this story in February, 2014:

In Poros port earlier today, says Voutirakos Cruises on the side and looks like a tour boat. No idea from whence it came, probably Zakynthos.
