Police investigate suspicious envelopes sent to Greece from India

ATHENS (Reuters) - Envelopes mailed from India to a dozen Greek universities prompted an anti-terrorism investigation on Thursday after tests found an industrial irritant that triggered an allergic reaction in members of staff.

The envelopes were addressed to 12 university rectors across Greece, from its islands to the mainland and the capital Athens, and some had a printed note of “Islamist content” inside, written in English, a police official said, without elaborating.

A suspicious package was received Thursday at the former Steering Committee building of the TEI of the Ionian Islands in Argostoli. Two firefighters kitted out with hazmat suits retrieved the package, which has been sent to Athens for testing. Two female employees who possibly came into contact with the package have been tested and released from Argostoli hospital.

“I’ll tell you, to me, the second-most important thing after love, what you do is never, ever give up,” Trump told the crowd. “Don’t give up. Don’t allow it to happen. If there’s a concrete wall in front of you, go through it. Go over it. Go around it. But get to the other side of that wall.”

Trump says he 'never meant Mexico would write cheque' for wall ahead of trip to border

Donald Trump has said he never intended to imply Mexico would “write a cheque” to fund a border wall when he repeatedly said the Latin American country “will pay” for the barrier during his election campaign.

Cash-strapped Flybe to be rescued by Virgin-led consortium
Regional airline, losing £7,000 per hour, put itself up for sale two months ago

Two months after Flybe put itself up for sale, the loss-making regional airline is to be rescued by a consortium led by Virgin Atlantic.

In November, Flybe’s chief executive, Christine Ourmières-Widener, said the airline was struggling with “a recent softening in growth in the short-haul market” as well as higher fuel and currency costs.

Two buyers emerged: Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic, and Stobart Air, which already operates some of its flights under the Flybe brand.

The Independent understands that the two suitors have now teamed up with a hedge fund, Cyrus Capital Partners, to make a combined bid of around £20m.

Looking at the snowfall in Austria, very pretty but could be extremely dangerous regards avalanches especially in the ski season.

Desperate Rescue of Trapped Birds on Frozen Lake Kastoria

Volunteers from the Kastoria Environmental Protection Society have been trying desperately over the last several days to rescue birds trapped in the ice of Kastoria’s frozen lake.

Due to the extremely low temperatures experienced during the last week, Kastoria Lake froze over completely, trapping many beautiful birds, including swans, which live in the stunning natural environment of the lake.

“We have already saved seventeen large birds such as swans, pelicans and herons which remained in the water during the night”, said Nikos Panagiotopoulos, a member of the society.

However, as he explained in an interview with the state-run AMNA news agency, “when it freezes, the birds’ feet become stuck on the ice.”

As the temperatures have plummeted and remained low for more than a week now, the large lake froze completely solid.
