Airline collapses leaving UK passengers with worthless tickets

New airline Fly Olympic AB, which was selling flights from London to Africa via Sweden and Greece, has cancelled all its services and filed for bankruptcy.

It claimed that after two weeks of trying to find a solution to its financial difficulties, it has decided to throw in the towel.

Foreign airline companies that operate summer seasonal flights to Greece are extending their schedules through November due to high demand. Seasonal flights usually stop in late October or early November.

According to Greek tourism news site Omorfa Taxidia, Crete, Santorini and Kalamata are the destinations that will benefit from these flight schedule extensions.

Russian tour operator Intaer announced on 5 August that it is suspending all activities due to the inability to meet its obligations to customers. This is the fifth Russian tour operator to go bankrupt since mid-July, following Roza Vetrov Mir, Neva Company, Expotour and, more recently, Labirint.

According to reports, some 10,000 Russians had booked holidays to Greece via Intaer. It is estimated that some 500 customers of the tour operator are currently in Greece, mainly on the islands of Corfu, Rhodes and Crete.
