Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have discovered a way to turn inanimate objects like crisp packets and pot plants into 'visual microphones' which can pick up conversations even in a sealed room

A team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) found that they could record noise by videoing the minuscule vibrations that sound waves create in inanimate objects.

By focussing on a pot plant or crisp packet in a sealed room, they were able to record the tiniest movements and convert it back into the sound that created it.
