Sixty six new cases of coronavirus confirmed on Kefalonia yesterday, four on Ithaka

Today's bank rate:
1 GBP = € 1.1621
1 USD = € 0.8577

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

Horrifying scene of woman's home flooded with poo after toilet explosion

This is the horrifying scene of a woman’s new home flooded with poo after months’ worth of sewage exploded from her toilet.

Mikayla Collins was forced to flee her home over health fears as rancid wastewater has covered the housing association property.

Footage shows human faeces and wet toilet rolls blanketing her home’s floor and overflowing the brim of the toilet.

The bathtub is filled with a murky brown liquid consisting of poo and other sewage.

'Simply Not True': Boris Johnson Blasted Over Boast He Left 'Coffers Full'

Sadiq Khan’s office has blasted Boris Johnson’s claim that he left Transport for London’s “coffers full”, saying it is “simply not true”.

“The overwhelming majority of TfL’s borrowing was incurred under the previous mayoralty, throughout which TfL accumulated £7billion of debt – vastly more than in all other years of TfL’s existence combined - so most of the interest that TfL is currently paying results from borrowing when the current prime minister was Mayor of London.”

‘As a Greek, I feel ashamed’: Sex film at Acropolis sparks investigation
The president of the Greek Actors’ Association described the erotic film as shameful

Greece's Culture Ministry has launched an investigation after the release of a short film showing people having sex at the ancient Acropolis in Athens.

The 36-minute movie, titled Departhenon, was released online on December 21 but only came to the attention of authorities this week.

The Culture Ministry said it had not given permission for the film shoot at the World Heritage site.

The section at the Acropolis shows two men having sex while standing in a circle formed by other actors. Visitors to the ancient site can be seen nearby.

"The archaeological site is not suitable for any kind of activism or other activity which would cause offence and displays disrespect for the monument," the ministry said in a statement.

Sunak’s tax hikes and soaring inflation to deliver £1,660 pay cut for UK workers
An average earner on £30,000 will see take-home pay slashed by £1,660 thanks to soaring bills and tax rises

Tax hikes and soaring bills will deliver the biggest shock to household incomes for almost half a century, and risk knocking the UK’s fragile economic recovery off course, experts have warned.

A person earning £30,000 will see their take-home pay plunge by £1,660 thanks to soaring living costs, stagnant wages and tax increases, according to new calculations by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS).

Hm, wonder if it will affect holiday bookings?  :dunno:

'HORRENDOUS' The Weakest Link’s Romesh Ranganathan heckled with vile racist abuse during gig in shocking clip

One punter told The Sun that the row started when Romesh made a joke about racism in football saying: “I’d rather be a P**i than a Scouse.”

A male audience member then reportedly kept shouting out “Millwall!”

Millwall FC has been fined thousands of pounds for its fans' racist abuse to rival teams' players over the years, so much so that declaring "Millwall" has become an abusive statement in itself.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/17249415/the-weakest-link-romesh-ranganathan-racist-abuse/

Just watching Millwall v Crystal Palace in the Cup on ITV. Ten of the Palace players 'took the knee', none of the Millwall players did. The crowd booed, couldn't say if it was Millwall fans booing Palace players or Palace fans booing Millwall, but as it was a home match I suspect it was the Millwall crowd.

“I’d rather be a P**i than a Scouse.” - sounds well dodgy to me  :schtum:

Wine trade fury at Sunak tax plan which will force up prices and create ‘unworkable’ red tape
‘Simplification’ of duty touted by Boris Johnson as key benefit of Brexit

A shake-up of alcohol duties touted by Boris Johnson as one of the key benefits of Brexit has sparked fury among the UK’s wine trade, who warn it will force up prices for consumers, sow confusion in shops and create “unworkable” levels of new red tape.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a review of excise duties in his 2020 Budget, saying that the UK would “make the most of the opportunity of leaving the EU” by simplifying the regime in place as part of the trading bloc.

But Treasury proposals set to take effect in February 2023 would replace a single rate of taxation for still wines with 13 different bands of duty levied according to strength - with 14 more for fortified wines.
