Covid-19 spread rate declines by half

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases plunged on Friday to 16,234 from Thursday’s figure of 22,107 and the drop was not due to the national holiday of March 25 and less testing.

According to the National Organization for Public Health, Friday’s new cases emerged from 379,957 tests against Thursday’s 260,109 pointing to a much-welcome easing of the positivity rate from 8.50% to 4.27% in the 24-hour period.

UK Covid infections climb by a million in a week

Covid cases have climbed by a million in a week in the UK, data from the Office for National Statistics reveals.

Swab tests suggest about one in every 16 people is infected, as the contagious Omicron variant BA.2 continues to spread.

That's just under 4.3 million people, up from 3.3 million the week before.

Coldest March in 35 years ending with a sunny smile

There were smiles on Friday as what has been the coldest March in 35 years neared its end with a springtime blush, bringing relief from two cold spells and skyrocketing heating bills.

According to the National Observatory, temperatures reached 22-23 degrees Celsius in many parts on Friday and are expected to stay warm through the end of the month. Last Sunday in contrast, parts of Imathia, Florina and Kozani chattered at -8C.
