People broadly view the EU favorably, both in member states and elsewhereThe European Union receives largely favorable ratings globally, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted this spring. Across 24 countries surveyed, a median of 66% give the EU a positive rating, while 29% give it a negative one.In the nine EU member states surveyed, a median of 69% have a favorable view of the organization, while 31% have an unfavorable view. Majorities in all but one country – Greece – express a favorable opinion.

Some reports say he has a number of broken bones and severe head injuries.Kie was riding his rented motorbike on Friday when he was involved in a crash with a trolleybus - a form of transport in Athens likened to both a tram and a bus.Kie's brother Daniel has set up a GoFundMe and is asking for help to pay his medical bills as they don't think his insurance will cover his expenses. Once he is stable, they plan to put him on a flight back home to the UK.
Road accident fatalities in country above EU averageThe number of people killed in traffic accidents in Greece is alarmingly high compared to other EU countries. Although the absolute number of fatalities remains lower than pre-pandemic levels (2019), it increased slightly over the last three years (2020-22).Compared to the rest of the EU, Greece was the fourth worst in 2022 in terms of such fatalities per million inhabitants (71), with experts citing poor driving behavior. The EU average is 46 deaths per million inhabitants.

Big banks linked to products with pangolin and leopard partsGlobal banking giants are investing in companies which produce traditional Chinese medicines containing leopard and pangolin parts, a report has found.Both species are classed as threatened.The Environmental Investigation Authority (EIA) identified 62 banks and financial institutions which are investing in three pharmaceutical groups making nine products which they say contain leopard or pangolin.The BBC has contacted the companies in question for comment.The companies include UK financial services giants such as HSBC, Prudential, and Legal & General, as well as global investment firms including Goldman Sachs, UBS, Deutsche Bank and BlackRock.Leopards and pangolins are threatened, which means they are likely to become endangered in the foreseeable future. Both are also listed on the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) treaty which prohibits international commercial trade in them and their parts, in a bid to ensure their survival in the wild is not threatened.

Road closure after WWII bomb is found in GlyfadaA World War II bomb was found on Tuesday in the southern Athenian suburb of Glyfada. A controlled explosion is planned for Thursday leading to the temporary closure of Posidonos Avenue. The bomb was found during construction works at the old airport. Posidonos Avenue will be affected from 12.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. on Thursday for setting off a controlled explosion that will neutralize ammunition.
Milly Beth Turnham's ten-year ban from keeping animals A WOMAN who was filmed repeatedly beating a puppy with a riding crop has been banned from keeping animals for ten years.The shocking footage shows Milly Beth Turnham, 23, throw young Shelby into a room from shoulder height before carrying out a prolonged attack on the cowering dog.The footage, which was filmed at an address in Bridgwater led to Turnham being investigated and prosecuted by the RSPCA.The animal welfare charity was contacted with concerns about Turnham’s behaviour towards tri-coloured collie Shelby, who was just six-months-old at the time of the attack.The sickening video was shared with the charity after it had been uploaded onto Facebook by Turnham’s partner, who filmed the incident in April 2022.
