Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8924 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1205 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1285 USD   $1 USD = 0.8861 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.6631 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.6012 €UR
1 €UR = R21.3839 ZAR   R1 ZAR = 0.0467 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Digital transfer of property completed online in one day, ministers say

The digital transfer of property platform went into operation on Monday through the gov.gr portal for all citizens and notaries public who wish to avoid lengthy in-person registration times.

Once data is entered, the system will send the approved transfer or a justified rejection within a working day, instead of several-month delays, e-Governance ministers said.

The e-platform reduces red tape by abolishing four documents, including the proof that real estate tax (TAP) has been paid, and the summary of a property contract. It also does away entirely with interested parties having to visit a Cadaster office.

In summary, the steps a citizen has to go through are three: logging in as a citizen and accepting an invitation by the notary public; selecting the property to be sold by the current owner or co-signee; paying the fees (as a buyer) and entering them in the Cadaster.

New property transfer platform launched
Authorities promise buying and selling transactions within a day, but questions linger

The much-touted “digital property transfer file,” through which the Ministry of Digital Governance promises purchases and sales in 24 hours, was launched on Wednesday.

However, questions have been raised as to why authorities chose to create a new platform instead of upgrading an already existing one with which notaries submit digital contracts.

As a result, there will now be two platforms for notaries that have exactly the same objective (digital contract submission), which will operate in parallel, and it will be up to the notaries to choose the one they prefer.

The platform’s launch is taking place in the midst of an abstention of lawyers and notaries in protest against the new tax bill.

HMRC rolls out ‘side hustle tax’ for online sellers on eBay, Vinted and more

People making a “side hustle” from selling second-hand clothes online or homeowners renting out a spare room on Airbnb are among those who could end up paying tax on their earnings under a New Year tax clampdown.

From 1 January firms including Vinted, Airbnb, Depop and eBay are obliged to collect and share details of transactions with the tax authorities.

While HMRC was already able to request information from UK-based online operators, from the start of 2024 there are new rules that the UK has signed up to via the international body, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as part of a global effort to clamp down on tax dodgers.
