Foreigners doubled their investment in Greek property, mostly holiday homes, in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2013, Bank of Greece data show.

In the period from January to June 2014 a total of 117.4 million euros flowed into Greece to that end, compared with 60.3 million a year earlier, reflecting the clear improvement in the holiday home market, at least as far as foreign buyers are concerned, as they are cottoning on to the bargains currently available in Greece.

Holiday home prices in Greece have dropped more than 40 percent since the start of the crisis six years go.

Greek police say two Russians, both aged 23, were arrested Sunday for scaling a wall on the Acropolis and damaging it while doing acrobatics.

The two were observed by a guard preparing to scale the wall and were warned against it. They ignored the warnings, police say. As they scaled the wall and were doing acrobatic moves, several stones fell off of the wall, which is a medieval addition.

The two were arrested for damaging an archaeological site.

A TIR truck with Bulgarian registration plates, driven by a Romanian citizen, caused a pileup, killing four and injuring 30 at the Thessaloniki – Veria highway in Greece, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.

More than half of those injured are in serious condition.

According to the reports, the police arrested the Romanian driver as he was trying to escape the accident site.

The initial information claims that the truck was going at very high speed when its brakes malfunctioned and it slammed into more than 30 cars who have pulled over due to road repairs.

Three of the cars were torched, while the passengers in some of the others have gotten out of the vehicles, which had saved them.

Police was signalling the truck to slow down, but it didn't.
