Kefalonia – Weather

Kefalonia is the largest Greek island with a warm Mediterranean climate and sizzling summer sunshine. Between June and August temperatures regularly reach 30°C. Most people choose to holiday to Kefalonia during this season. Kefalonia’s average temperature is 26°C making it a year round holiday destination and an attractive choice for Mediterranean sun seekers.

If only temperatures did reach 30°C - and no more - between June-August! What caught my eye was the mention of "making it a year round holiday destination" - but I doubt that's in their plans, more likely just their way of talking.

Its capital, Argostoli Town displays some fascinating cultural monuments including the Drapano Bridge and Nikos Kavvadias statue. It’s also great for shopping and has a lively town square. Don’t forget to save a day to sail across the mesmerising Melissani Lake.

Take a day trip to the south east of the island and visit Skala Town. This former fishing village has an authentic Greek charm and is a great spot to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the scenic views. The three kilometre beach line has plenty to see and do with water sports, sun loungers, boat trips and a long strip of tavernas and restaurants serving traditional Greek Messe.

Skala is home to a wealth of historic and natural sights, from the ancient Drogarati Cave to the Temple of Apollo.

Oh well, at least there's some nice pics of Kefalonia! ThomasCook/Kefalonia

No lack of luxury accommodation investment

Major international players in the hotel market, foreign tour operators’ hotel chains and global luxury hotel networks are expanding their presence in Greece.

Some of Europe’s biggest tour operators, including TUI, Der Touristik and Thomas Cook, have already decided to strengthen their position in the local hotel market ahead of next season.

TUI’s Robinson chain will secure its presence in the Peloponnese next year, having taken over the operation of the Kyllini Beach Hotel, with a capacity of 317 rooms.

Holder of Syrian passport found in Paris passed through Greece

The holder of a Syrian passport found near the body of one of the gunmen who died in Friday night's attacks in Paris passed though Greece in October, a Greek minister said.

"The holder of the passport passed through the island of Leros on Oct. 3, 2015, where he was identified according to EU rules," said Greece's deputy minister in charge of police, Nikos Toskas, in a statement.

A Greek police source said the passport's owner was a young man who had arrived in Leros with a group of 69 refugees and had his fingerprints taken by authorities there. Police declined to give his name.
