Unconfirmed but heard 'supermarkets' will soon be allowed to sell minor, non-prescription medicines.

Creditors approve plan for easing of capital controls

Greece’s creditors have approved a series of initiatives devised by the Bank of Greece aimed at relaxing the capital controls which are currently in place.

The Governor of the Bank of Greece Yannis Stournaras formally sent the request to the European Central Bank on Monday. The plan, which involves lifting all restrictions on withdrawals from any cash deposits, aims to bring back the 15 billion euros that are believed to have been taken out of banks and store ‘under the mattress’.

According to the Governor’s request, bank account holders will be able to withdraw up to 840 euros in cash every two weeks.

"bank account holders will be able to withdraw up to 840 euros in cash every two weeks" ...er, as opposed to 420€ every week??

Of course, being able to withdraw 840€ every fortnight is quite handy if you have SFA in your account!

The 840 every 2 weeks is a slight improvement on 420 per week in that it means you can withdraw once per fortnight. At the moment once per fortnight would still limit you to 420 as you can't "save up your withdrawals". You would have to go twice to get to 840. That is for each card of course.

I think you have got that wrong somehow, there is no difference! I can draw 420 euro in one hit, ie, one withdrawal, on day eight I can withdraw another 420, in other words nothing has changed.

You missed the point expat. If you make no withdrawal for 6 months - your max initial withdrawal is 420. Under the new arrangements it is now 840. When Capital Controls were launched it was 60E per day. If your first day's withdrawal was after 10 years - it was 60E. Then it changed to to 420 per week. Sounds the same but it wasn't. After one week it was still just 60E as you couldn't save up the days. So if your first day withdrawal was after 10 years - it became 420E, not 60E. Now it has become 840E. If you're still confused, meet me at the bank & I'll show you.

I take your point, but you will be able to make one withdrawal of 840 per fortnight instead of two withdrawals, one each week of 420. in every day life the amount is still the same, you will have 840 in your paw every two weeks.
