Cruise ship decks have as much air pollution as Beijing, study finds

The decks of cruise ships are as polluted as smog-ridden cities such as Beijing and Santiago, according to a new study.

Research conducted on board four cruise ships over the last two years found levels of particulate matter (PM) – pollution consisting of small solids or liquid droplets suspended in the air – were “comparable to concentrations measured in polluted cities.”

When inhaled, some PM “can damage the heart and lungs,” says the report, conducted on behalf of campaign group Stand.earth by Ryan David Kennedy PhD of Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Loose cruise ship gets wedged under bridge on icy Hudson River

The moment an out-of-control empty cruise ship became wedged under a railway bridge on a river of ice in New York has been captured on camera.

Heard there's a bit of a hoo-ha brewing about two vans stopped at Patras port after being found to  contain approximately thirty five cats and dogs headed to northern Europe (allegedly) from Zakynthos and Kefalonia. Appears port police were tipped off that a missing pet was in one of the vans, but that's unconfirmed (the alleged tip-off and a missing pet being involved). Relevant authorities checking ID of animals involved. Apparently ARK/Doris say none of their animals are involved in the shipment.
