Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8878 GBP
1 €UR = $1.0940 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1264 €UR
$1 USD = 0.9141 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis Announces 10 % Food Subsidy For Families Amid Inflation Woes

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Saturday announced a 10-percent subsidy for every household’s food purchases to help counter the burden of inflation.

“From next February, the state will cover 10 percent of each household’s purchases for six months in supermarkets and food businesses (bakeries, pastry shops, fishmongers),” the prime minister told parliament before a vote on the 2023 state budget amid a pre-electoral atmosphere.

The measure would cost 650 million euros ($690 million), said Mitsotakis

Elections in Greece are scheduled by July 2023, but Mitsotakis has said they could be held in the spring.

Individuals will receive a maximum of 220 euros.

The measure is for households with an income of 24,000 euros per couple, with an additional 5,000 euros for each child.

Eurobarometer: Greece Has The Lowest Support For Ukraine In The EU

A Eurobarometer poll has found that a large number of Greeks, unlike the overwhelming majority of European citizens, do not approve of the European Union’s backing for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

In the relevant question of the Parliament’s Eurobarometer for autumn 2022, a majority of citizens in the 24 member-states approve of the position taken by the EU, with the exception of Slovakia, Bulgaria and Greece, which have the lowest percentages (49%, 48% and 48% respectively).

The highest levels are recorded in Sweden (97%), Finland (95%), the Netherlands (93%), Portugal (92%) and Denmark (92%).

The same survey showed that three quarters of European citizens (73%) agree with the specific measures taken by the EU, namely sanctions against the Russian government, as well as economic, military and humanitarian support to Ukraine.

Again, Greece is at the bottom of the ranking, with only 46%.

Citizens feelings are in stark contrast to the actions of the government though.

Steven Spielberg ‘truly regrets’ decimation of shark population due to Jaws

Steven Spielberg said he “truly regrets” the “decimation of the shark population” following the success of his 1975 film Jaws.

Joining Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discshe discussed his successful directing career.

Spielberg, 75, is known for Hollywood blockbusters including ET, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Parkand Jaws.

The 1975 Oscar-winning thriller tells the story of a man-eating great white shark that attacks a US seaside town, which prompted a rise in sports fishing across America.

Asked by Laverne how he felt about having real sharks circling his desert island, he said: “That’s one of the things I still fear.

“Not to get eaten by a shark, but that sharks are somehow mad at me for the feeding frenzy of crazy sports fishermen that happened after 1975.”

He added: “I truly and to this day regret the decimation of the shark population because of the book and the film. I really, truly regret that.”

The company has a workaround for affected devices, but it requires loading the Windows Recovery Environment.

Microsoft warns administrators that they should not use any other method to resolve the issue . Microsoft engineers are working on a permanent solution to resolve the issue on all devices. The company has yet to announce a release date for the fix.
