Greece tops eurozone in overtaxation

Greece has taken the lead among eurozone countries in the taxes-to-GDP ratio, rising from 13th place in 2008, before the country requested a bailout to stabilize its finances, to first place as of 2016.

A tax-to-GDP ratio of over 27 percent is unprecedented in the country, at least since the restoration of democracy in 1974.

Greece holiday nightmare as island left without power for DAYS cutting off WATER

HOLIDAYMAKERS on the Greek island of Hydra have been left stranded since Sunday after a power outage caused an island-wide blackout, resulting in water shortages and a damaging impact on the island’s tourism and trade industry.

Cash machines and road signals are not working, while mini-markets, restaurants and ice-cream shops on the island have seen their stock destroyed from a lack of cooling facilities.

Rather sensational headline in yesterday's Excess. Power was off for 36 hours at most, a great inconvenience but not the end of the world. It's a very small island and not a major destination such as Corfu or Mykonos. So small there's no roads and no cars... maybe the road signals alight when speeding donkeys flash past - no doubt on their way to the ice-cream parlour.

What's gone wrong with payday lender Wonga?

...astronomical interest rates of more than 4,000%, which could soon substantially increase the cost of even a small loan taken out for a few days. One Wonga customer told the BBC about the sleepless nights caused by her £300 loan soon mushrooming into a £2,000 debt.

Debt charities maintain that payday lenders are part of the problem - rather than the solution - to unaffordable consumer debt.
