Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £ 0.8819 GBP   £1 GBP = 1.1339 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.1185 USD   $1 USD = 0.8940 €UR
1 €UR = $ 1.7089 AUD   $1 AUD = 0.5851 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g. the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Functional but Bizarre Design Features of 2,000-Year-Old Greek Battle Helmets

Both of these helmets, by the way, fetched eye-watering sums at auction. The Chalcidian went for $283,500, and the Pilos sold for $214,200.

That's around 262,535€ / 198,360€.

Check if you're in Google Chrome's third-party cookie phaseout test

Google has started testing the phasing out of third-party cookies on Chrome, affecting about 1% of its users or approximately 30 million people. Learn how to check if you are part of the initial test.

Third-party cookies, which track users' browsing habits across different websites for targeted advertising, are slowly being replaced by Google's Privacy Sandbox APIs. This new method aims to allow personalized ads based on users' interests without compromising their privacy.

Firefox and Safari have already eliminated default access to these cookies, with Google expecting to follow suit by adopting a more secure method. The tech giant is aiming for interoperability across different browsers while maintaining high privacy and security standards.

The shift away from third-party cookies marks a significant change in online advertising, requiring advertisers to adapt to new privacy-preserving technologies. Google is actively working with web developers to create solutions that protect user privacy while ensuring the web remains dynamic and accessible.

Based on the test results and whether it causes significant issues with the displaying of websites, Google will begin to gradually phase out third-party cookies for the rest of its users starting in the third quarter of 2024.

Allegedly an attempted break-in near Kampana plateia in Argostoli during the early hours of this morning was thwarted when an occupant of the house returned from a night out and discovered intruders in the courtyard of the property. The thieves fled and police collected as evidence burglary equipment they left behind. Appears the intention was to break in to business premises next door.

Kef police staffing to be increased by five officers. Seem to recall hearing that the local police union requested substantially more.

Hey ho, six police officers are being temporarily transferred from Kef to Attica (geater Athens) for 3-6 months w.e.f. tomorrow. The five new officers are unlikely to be in post until September.

Man arrested for olive oil adulteration and trade
A 48-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for producing fake olive oil with various substances.

Police have said that a report was made against the man, which was followed by an investigation of the West Attica basement in which the olive oil adulteration took place, and his subsequent arrest.

According to police, the 48-year-old would mix great quantities of sunflower oil with an aroma compound approximating the smell of olive seeds, in order to produce and sell it as pure olive oil.

Among various items, police confiscated 13,960 liters of sunflower oil, 6,332 liters of a substance approximating olive oil, 70 liters of the olive seed aroma compound, 720 empty metallic containers, €1,750 in cash, two vehicles, a great quantity of label stickers, as well as the equipment used for the adulteration.
