The wreck of Titanic’s sister ship could be transformed into an underwater attraction for scuba divers if a Greek tour operator gets his way.

HMHS Britannic was one of three Olympic-class ships, along with the Titanic, which sank in 1912, and Olympic, which retired in 1934, built for the White Star Line by the same shipyard – Harland and Wolff. Since 1916 it has lain 400ft below the surface of the Kea Channel in the Aegean Sea after hitting a German mine, but plans have been mooted, 100 years on, to turn it into a mainstream scuba attraction.

Hospital workers warn of serious shortages in ambulance fleet

The union representing Greece’s public hospital workers (POEDIN) has issued a damning report in which it accuses the Health Ministry of putting patients’ lives at risk by failing to make use of European Union funding to upgrade the country’s flagging fleet of ambulances.

In the report published on Monday, PEODIN says that the number of ambulances awaiting repairs in the Greek capital outnumber those in active service, adding that with 60 ambulances available during the day to cover the entire city, Athens has half the number required by international standards.

The situation is similar in the northern port city of Thessaloniki.
