Moderate tremor in western Greece has islanders worried

A tremor measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale struck about 9 kilometers of the western Greek coastal town of Kylini on Tuesday afternoon and while moderate has caused concern on a nearby island.

Residents on the Ionian island of Zakynthos said the 3 p.m. tremor, while small in magnitude, was felt quite strongly, raising concerns as the island has experienced large earthquakes in the past.

There were no reports of injuries or damages.

Third runway at Heathrow cleared for takeoff by ministers

The government has approved a third runway at Heathrow to expand UK airport capacity following a cabinet committee meeting on Tuesday.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said the "truly momentous" decision would support trade and create jobs.

Gatwick airport said it was disappointed with the decision, which was "not the right answer for Britain".

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson - a vocal opponent of Heathrow - said a third runway was "undeliverable".

The MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip in west London doubted whether construction would ever start: "The day when the bulldozers appear is a long way off, if indeed they ever materialise."

Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, also said expanding the west London airport was the wrong decision for both London and the UK.

Greenpeace UK chief John Sauven said a third runway at Heathrow would increase air pollution and "be a waste of time, money and lives".

A wide range of unions and business groups welcomed the decision to expand Heathrow.

Essex girls rise to delete term from dictionary

It is a phrase synonymous with 1990s ladette culture, used to define brash party girls in one part of England.

And that is why two Essex women have launched a campaign to remove the 'rude and stereotypical' term "Essex girl" from the Oxford English Dictionary.

Argostoli's annual Oki Day parade starts 12:00 on Rizospaston.
Cancelled after some of the steel shuttering around the square turned into kites in the strong winds.......
