Branding Briefing: How Some Greek Olive Farmers Are Making More Money Selling Less Oil

Vasilis Dimas stunned his agricultural community near the ancient city of Corinth when he switched his organic olive groves to the more stringent, premium category of “biodynamic” four years ago.

Neighboring growers called him a “mad man” and objected to his new-fangled farming methods. They worried it wasn’t sustainable. But Dimas is among a group of olive oil farmers, pressers and distributors who believe high quality, artisanal olive varieties will help reclaim the ancient fruit from commodification and fraud.

Kef's mayor, Alexandros Parisis, and Deputy Mayor for Elios-Pronnoi, Nikos Papadatos, held a meeting with residents and business professionals yesterday to discuss Skala's problems. Heard it wasn't very well attended but haven't heard what the perceived problems are.

Unconfirmed but heard a fifty-four foreign national died yesterday in Lixouri area while undertaking an organized recreational dive.

Sad news if it's confirmed.

I've dived many sites on the Island in the last 11 years. The nearest site to Lixouri is the wreck of the F495, only of the German Landing Craft/Barges that were shelled by the Italians as one of the incidents that led to the massacre of the Italian prisoners. It lies in only 8-11 metres so it's not in any way a difficult dive or one where anyone would be expected to get into trouble. Nearby is another wreck that was discovered last year. This was carrying stones and is thought it was part of the german convoy and was intended as a blockade ship to be sunk outside Lixouri harbour. The is in even shallower water, at a maximum of 8.3 metres.

Neither of these wrecks is the sort that divers can get inside to explore and possibly get trapped, so it seems an odd occurence.
