Kef fire risk 22/06/23: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8840 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1251 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1312 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8888 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:
This is an overall forecast, due to the mountainous terrain the weather can be very localised.

NHS lung cancer tests for every ex-smoker
Mass checks from middle age set to be rolled out under landmark plan to boost survival rates

Anyone who has ever smoked is set to be offered a lung check from middle age under a landmark NHS plan to boost cancer survival.

Ministers are poised to back a recommendation from screening chiefs to support the mass rollout of CT scans in mobile units and trucks in supermarket car parks.

Results from pilot schemes have found that three-quarters of lung cancer cases at stage one or two – when it is more likely to be treatable – can be spotted by the checks.

Received my invite last week and have an appointment for 3rd July, phoned the freephone number on the invite answered
a few questions such as "how many cigarettes a day did you smoke", "how old were you when you started and stopped smoking"
Better to be safe than sorry I guess

Restaurant fined after hiring fake priest to encourage staff to confess their workplace sins

A restaurant hired a fake priest to encourage workers to confess their workplace sins.

Investigators labelled the Californian businesses' ploy one of “the most shameless” acts of corruption an employer has ever taken against its staff.

Thought to be a longfin mackerel shark, spotted between Kyllini and Kefalonia by a local professional fisherman who described it as not at all aggressive, swimming alongside his boat like a dolphin.

Edit: quite rare and they don't frequent beaches

Some results of the beach / kantina lease auctions for Argostoli municipality: allegedly Avythos seafront and beach area no. 1, a 490 sq. m. plot, had a starting price of 19,500€ but went for 90,000€ to Christoforos Lourouklis with Mrs Yulia Leskova as guarantor. They lost out on Avythos seafront and beach area plot 2, a 15 sq .m. kantina, to Dimitrios Pefanis with Andreas Chrysostomos-Antonios as guarantor who bid 80,000€ to their 77,000€. Other places went for significantly less with some, such as Agia Kyriaki at Zola receiving no bids. Can't find any trace of auction of beaches such as Katelios, Skala or Poros, maybe still to come..
