Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.9112 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1332 USD
£1 GBP = 1.0975 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8825 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Traffic diversion between 15:00-19:00 today on the Poros-Argostoli road due to an artuclated wagon going off road - and nearly down a hillside - in Vlakhata last night. Driver uninjured, one parked car probably written off, another suffered minor damage. Light traffic will be diverted around Vlakhata, heavy traffic diverted via Sami while artic and car recovered.

Elections ahead and the sweeteners just keep on coming: looks likely Kefalonia & Ithaka will receive 550,000€ state aid for disaster recovery, divided as follows:
200,000€ to the Municipality of Sami for road building
150,000€ to the Municipality of Lixouri for restoration of walls
100,000€ to the Municipality of Argostoli for restoration of Ianos damage
100,000€ to the Municipality of Ithaka for the restoration of rural roads

Removal of illegal Mykonos structures begins

The owners of the Principote beach club in Panormos on the island of Mykonos started work on Monday to remove some of the illegal constructions for which they have been fined 22.2 million euros.

The law states that the owners have 10 days before the fine is finalized. The question is whether the owners will demolish the entire 39,780 square meters of illegalities recorded by the environmental inspectors or simply seek a reduction of the fine.

However, if the owners wish to demolish or remove the entire structure (and not just panels and containers) they will have their work cut out for them. According to the inspectors, a total of 33 illegal structures were identified.

Following this development, a number of questions arise. One important one is, if the company does not demolish all the illegal structures, will it be allowed to operate this year?

It should be noted that Principote does not have a good track record, as in the past its owners demolished unauthorized structures after inspections by the Syros Town Planning Department and the imposition of fines. They then they erected new illegal buildings in order to reopen.

Rishi Sunak ‘seeks EU deal’ to end Brexit border chaos for holidaying Brits
Long delays at passport control among most unpopular fallouts from Brexit and could be solved by using EU e-gates

Despite inisting (sic) no talks were under way, Downing Street said wider use of e-gates for British tourists in Europe would be “welcome”. No 10 said officials were also working with the EU to understand the impact of the new entry/exit system for British citizens.

Mr Sunak’s official spokesman did not recognise reports that the PM personally is pushing for greater access to e-gates.

Allegedly work has begun on a solution to the narrow entrance to Poros on the Skala road by the memorial to the HMS Perseus (red line on map). An existing track is being surfaced to allow two one-way streets, according to locals.

Road now open, quite a detour!
