Kef fire risk 18/06/23: Low

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8812 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1144 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1348 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8973 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ex-Tory MP David Warburton resigns after suspension over harassment and drugs claims

Ex-Tory MP David Warburton has resigned following his suspension from the party over harassment and drug abuse claims, creating a further by-election headache for Rishi Sunak.

The MP for Somerton and Frome had the Tory whip removed in April 2022 after formal complaints were made by two women to the parliamentary harassment watchdog.

Both women accused Mr Warburton of unwanted sexual comments and advances – allegations he denied.

Mr Warburton admitted to the Mail on Sunday that he had taken cocaine after drinking whisky with a third woman who secretly photographed and recorded him.

Conservatives face fresh partygate probe after video shows staff dancing and mocking Covid rules

Footage has been obtained by the Mirror, appearing to show Conservative Party staff enjoying festivities in December 2020, soon before people were unable to spend Christmas with their loved ones.

In the video, one attendee can be heard saying: " As long as we don't stream that we're like, bending the rules," before laughing - while a man and woman hold hands and dance.

At least 24 guests were reportedly at the gathering, said to have taken place on December 14, 2020. Police took no action against the attendees, who included former mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey.

One of the other attendees was recently awarded an OBE in Boris Johnson's controversial resignation honours list, published earlier this month.

I've as much idea what Keir Starmer's policies are as, well, Kier Starmer has  :dunno:

At least Rishi seems fairly practical, rather than an ideological idiot such as Truss, Rees-Mogg or mad Nad. He also seems a paragon of virtue compared to barking Boris.

We've had thunder and lightning here just as it's turned nice on Kef, looks like summer might (finally) be arriving on Kef  :)

Car went off road and hit an olive tree in Lakithra during the early hours of this morning. Drive had to be freed from car by fire service before he could be taken to hospital.

Fire broke out at end of Lourdas beach mid-afternoon, contained and extinguished by fire service and volunteers with support from a PZL camel.

Most of the bar owners we have spoken to seem a bit miffed by the weather, they said they had a dry winter but they are paying the price now, Sami and Agia Efimia are quieter than we expected , but the weather seems to be getting better now its time for us to go home,  i blamed the transexuals for the weather, most of the Greeks who understood me tended to agree!

Sounds like you do what we do in Greece when it's too wet to sit on beach - find a bar and... chat to the barperson. Heard Katelios is doing OK, Poros not too bad.

And don't forget - when the weather's bad don't get caught with a flat...

Greece boat disaster: Ship tracking casts doubt on Greek Coastguard's account

The BBC has obtained evidence casting doubt on the Greek coastguard's account of Wednesday's migrant shipwreck in which hundreds are feared to have died.

Analysis of the movement of other ships in the area suggests the overcrowded fishing vessel was not moving for at least seven hours before it capsized.

The coastguard still claims that during these hours the boat was on a course to Italy and not in need of rescue.

Greek authorities have not yet responded to the BBC's findings.

At least 78 people are known to have died, but the UN says up to 500 are still missing.

The UN has called for an investigation into Greece's handling of the disaster, amid claims more action should have been taken earlier to initiate a full-scale rescue attempt.

Greek officials maintain those on board said they did not want help and were not in danger until just before their boat sank.

Leaked video appears to show Rishi Sunak mocking trans people

Leaked video obtained by Pink News appears to show Rishi Sunak making fun of trans women.

According to the LGBT+ news outlet, the footage is from the prime minister's speech to the 1922 Committee hearing on 5 June 2023.

Addressing Tory MPs, Mr Sunak appeared to make transphobic jokes about “women having penises” and mocked Liberal Democrats leader Ed Davey for his support of the queer community.

"I’m a big fan of everybody studying maths to 18, but it turns out that we need to focus on biology" he said, to laughter from the crowd.
