Alternate Health Minister Leonidas Grigorakos on Wednesday proposed that a 5-euro fee that patients pay for outpatient treatment at state hospitals be scrapped and the lost revenue offset by other measures such as increasing taxes on tobacco products and alcohol.

Who will look after this cat? Battersea's fattest ever cat put on Christmas diet
Morbidly obese cat taken to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home weighing 26 pounds, making him three times overweight and needing a double width staircase to his pen

The eight-year-old long-haired cat's weight is so extreme his pen had to be kitted out with specialist equipment to cope.

£11bn energy smart meter roll-out suffers fresh delay
Widespread installation of electricity and gas "smart meters" was due to begin late next year but could now be delayed until October 2016

The meters are not compulsory but ministers want 53m of them installed in every home and small business. The installation costs will be levied on all customers, irrespective of whether they have got a meter installed.

Fewer than half of households actually want a smart meter installed, a survey by the organisation tasked with driving public support for the devices found earlier this year.

He is 101 years old and Still behind the wheel! An elderly man from Akrata, Peloponnese has has just passed the test to renew his driver’s license for another three years, leaving doctors stunned as he passed all medical exams likewise. He may now well be the oldest driver in Greece and possibly Europe.

The old man lives in Akrata but has a summer home in Cephalonia, where he went to be tested on his driving skills. After he passed that test, he went to Patra to pass the medical exams required.

Mike

It is great to see that you have now recovered from *post season burn-out* and are now getting around and about with the camera. :)
It is always good to see some winter photos from Kef.

I still haven't found the path down to Kako Lagadi. I must have got my legs scarred many times from the undergrowth in an attempt do so. :dunno: Any clues would be most welcome...............

Cheers
Phil

Most people visiting Kako Lagadi park on the gravel lay-by at the end of the safety barrier - technically it's off-road so car probably not insured while it's there but you're going to be taking your life in your hands anyway... I've seen people taking the goat track across the gorge but I walked up the road and hopped over the barrier at the end:

After that it's a case of turn left at the onion-y thing, take three steps and turn sharp right at the nettles partly eaten by the goats, then two paces and veer left at the bramble bush (no, not that bramble bush, the other bramble bush)... in short, just follow the most well-worn 'path' and hope for the best!

Gets popular in high season, even though it's a small, pebbly beach. Probably a nice spot when you have it to yourself, what makes it worth a visit are the sea caves and 'doorways' in the rocks. Other than that, the beach at the end of Porto Skala car park (by the Temple of Apollo) is probably a bit nicer and easier (and safer) to access. Might even be less well-known as it's not nearly as obvious as the cove opposite Porto Skala.

Thanks for the lovely pictures Maik. Porto Skala has such memories for us .Spent many happy hours snorkling down there and feeding the crabs on our old bread. They would come out of the water and almost eat from your hand. Taught all the Grandkids to snorkel down there. Brill!! Just what I needed on this miserable Sunday afternoon.
