The fall of Rome? Italy's fears that corporate-sponsored restoration projects will lead to the Disneyfication of its cultural heritage

They have clothed the world’s wealthy fashionistas and bejeweled Hollywood stars. Now, Italy’s kings of fashion are poised to give this nation’s crumbling monuments a makeover to restore them to their former glory, something the cash-strapped Italian government cannot do.

But as Italy courts private cash to rescue some of the globe’s best-known relics of the ancient world, a debate is raging over the commercialisation of history. The Italians have been careful to avoid, say, the kind of US-style rebranding that could lead to Prada’s Pompeii or the Leaning Tower of Gucci. But critics are already fretting about corporate exploitation of Italy’s national patrimony.

Rather dark but looked like a young mother cat was killed in the road outside Ntalas villas (opposite Spileo / Sin club), kitten scuttled away from the body as I approached. Not sure what it's possible to do for any of her kittens but if anyone's passing that way maybe put some biccies / scraps out under the green wheelie bin?

If not already done, please take the mother's body off the road, to stop kittens going to 'investigate' mother and then causing further deaths.

Nearly three years after it was first brought to parliament, Greek MPs are poised to pass an anti-discrimination bill which human rights groups say still falls far short of dealing with an epidemic of racist and homophobic violence in the country.

Sounds as though Solvex, a Russian package tour operator, went bust this morning. Had some customers collect a car at 09:15, brought it back at 13:45 as they've been told they have to be on a 'plane back to Russia this evening, or make their own way home.

Major Russian tour operator Solvex-Tourne suspended activities on Monday, the country's Union of Tourism Industry has said.

Around 9,000 clients are currently abroad, predominately in Greece and Bulgaria.

Russia's tourism industry has suffered a dreadful summer, as 16 companies have closed as a result of financial difficulty.
