Kef fire risk 10/0723: Medium

Today’s bank rates:
1 €UR = £0.8786 GBP
1 €UR = $1.1215 USD
£1 GBP = 1.1382 €UR
$1 USD = 0.8917 €UR

Based on Alpha Bank exchange rates, these are widely used by exchange agencies in Greece.
Other banks likely to offer a different rate which may be marginally higher or lower.
Banks and foreign exchange offices normally charge standard 2% commission.
You may get a better rate changing your holiday money in advance at e.g the
Post Office.
NB: some f-ex agencies advertise "No Commission".
Invariably, they deduct commission before they (don't) advertise the rate.
Foreign exchange offices are businesses, not charities.

Ten day weather forecast for Kefalonia:

Chania: Japanese tourists abandon baby inside car despite blistering heat

A baby was found crying in a locked car in Chania, in danger of dying from heatstroke. However, the intervention of the police forces saved the infant's life.

The incident happened shortly before 8:30 on Sunday night when police officers were alerted to rush to the old Xenia in the western moat in Chania. Inside a locked car was a crying baby, reports Para Kritika.

The police were forced to break the window of the vehicle and take the child out, which, according to witnesses, was locked for some time.

After a while, his parents, who had gone for a walk in the Venetian Harbour with their other child, also arrived at the scene. The couple from Japan was taken to the police department for exposing a minor to danger.

Easyjet cancels 1,700 flights from July to September

The airline has axed flights during July, August and September, travelling to and from Gatwick airport.

Easyjet blamed constrained airspace over Europe and ongoing air traffic control difficulties, which are causing regular cancellations.

The company said 95% of affected passengers had been rebooked onto alternative flights.

Wild deer said to have been spotted near Sami. Back in 2014:

Four wild deer spotted by my colleague Panayiotis early this morning up near the airport, a doe and three fawn. A few years ago I spotted one near Sissia early one morning. Escapees from the farm near Lidl?

Hope the hunters don't get them.

Transparent mouse could improve cancer drug tests

A new scanning method involving a see-through mouse could improve how cancer drugs are tested, by picking up tumours previously too small to detect.

Prof Ali Ertürk of the Helmholtz Munich research centre worked out how to make a dead mouse transparent in 2018.

His team have now used chemicals to highlight specific tissues so that they can be scanned in unprecedented detail.

Drugs are often tested first on mice. Scientists say the new scanning method could revolutionise medical research.
