Toyota recalls 2.4 million hybrid cars due to stalling problems

The company said that in rare cases the vehicles might fail to enter a “failsafe” driving mode, lose power and stall.

Power steering and braking would still work but a stall at a fast speed could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall applies to some Toyota Prius and Auris hybrids made from October 2008-November 2014.

Ancient Greek “comics” found in Jordan

Inside an ancient Roman tomb unearthed recently in Jordan, archaeologists have found a unique comics like mural showcasing life as it might have been in the city of Capitolias, several thousand years ago. Depicting a multitude of colorful figures, including humans, gods and animals, this one-of-a-kind mural also features “speech bubbles”, much like you would find in modern comics.

According to researchers, the figures in the painting appear in different poses, primarily related to routine activities like constructing a defensive wall to protect the city from potential invaders as well as harvesting crops. Alongside these illustrations are several dozen inscriptions that – as per the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) – describe the actions in Aramaic (written in Greek alphabet).

West Nile virus linked to 34 deaths in Greece this year

Three more people have died as a result of complications after contracting the West Nile virus, bringing the death toll across Greece from the beginning of the year so far to 34, according to authorities.

According to the weekly epidemiological surveillance report of the Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO), reported cases have reached 289 this year.

Twenty-five patients are currently in hospital, including 15 who are in intensive care.

The virus, which is transmitted by mosquitoes' bites, can affect the nervous system and cause meningitis, encephalitis and other serious complications.

It was first detected in Greece in 2010, with 262 confirmed cases and 35 deaths. In 2017 Greece reported five fatalities.
